Cheap Suburbs Where Prices Doubled in a Decade
New PropTrack data has revealed 77 suburbs across Australia where median home prices have more than doubled over the past decade — jumping from below $500,000 in 2015 to above $1 million in 2025. The surge highlights how affordability, lifestyle demand, and population growth have reshaped once-overlooked markets into some of the nation’s most competitive areas. Queensland dominated the list with 48 suburbs, while strong growth was also recorded in coastal New South Wales and regional South Australia. Limited supply, pandemic-era migration trends, and the appeal of beachside living have all played key roles in pushing prices higher.
NSW Coastal Boom
In New South Wales, 18 suburbs saw median prices climb from under $500,000 to above $1 million, with the strongest growth concentrated in coastal lifestyle regions such as the Shoalhaven, Newcastle and Lake Macquarie, and the Tweed Coast.
Once considered affordable, towns like Mollymook Beach, Narrawallee, and Callala Beach have transformed into high-demand, high-value markets as remote work and lifestyle migration accelerated during and after the pandemic.
Agents report continued interest from Sydney, Wollongong, and Canberra buyers seeking beachside homes and better value outside the capital.
