The Richest Have the Rosiest Outlook: 62% Expect to Be Richer by 2026
A new global investor survey by Wall Street Journal Intelligence has revealed that optimism rises sharply with wealth. Among ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNWIs) — those holding more than $10 million in investable assets — 62% expect to be financially better off by September 2026.
That confidence drops to 54% among high-net-worth individuals ($1–9.9 million) and 53% among emerging affluents (under $1 million).
The difference? The wealthiest maintain diversified, alternative-heavy portfolios, supported by professional family offices and advisers, and view market volatility as opportunity rather than risk.
Nearly 80% of UHNWIs invest in residential real estate, while 39% plan to expand property holdings in the year ahead. Real estate remains their most trusted store of value, alongside private equity, hedge funds, and crypto.
UHNWIs are also more patient investors — 72% say they can endure market swings, compared to just 60% of younger, less wealthy peers.
